Practicing Hospitality: The Heart of Kindred & Company

Today, I want to share a bit about the heart behind this blog and the verse that inspires everything we do: "Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality." (Romans 12:13). This simple yet profound instruction from Paul captures the essence of what Christian hospitality means to me and why I feel called to write about it. Hospitality isn’t just a matter of etiquette or entertaining—it’s a way to show God’s love in action. Romans 12:13 reminds us that hospitality is more than a social grace; it’s a spiritual gift and a calling to open our hearts and homes to those around us. It’s about seeing and meeting the needs of others with a spirit of generosity and warmth.

What Does it Mean to "Practice Hospitality"?

To *practice* hospitality is to make it part of our everyday lives. This verse isn’t calling us to grand gestures alone but to weave small, genuine acts of kindness and welcome into our daily interactions. It’s about offering a smile to a stranger, a listening ear to a friend, or a seat at our table to someone who needs to feel seen. This is the foundation of Kindred & Company—to encourage and equip others to create spaces where God’s love can be felt, whether in our homes, churches, or communities.

Sharing with Those in Need

The call to “share with the Lord’s people who are in need” resonates deeply with the mission of Kindred & Company. Needs come in many forms—physical, emotional, spiritual—and part of Christian hospitality is being sensitive to these needs in the people around us. Jesus himself often met people in the most basic acts of provision, feeding the hungry, healing the sick, and simply being present with those who felt unseen. By practicing hospitality, we have the opportunity to reflect Christ’s love to those who may feel alone, lost, or disconnected.

Why Kindred & Company?

Romans 12:13 aligns perfectly with the vision for Kindred & Company. I wanted a name that communicated family, connection, and a sense of belonging because that’s what true hospitality is all about. "Kindred" speaks to the idea that we are all part of God’s family, brothers and sisters in Christ, and that we are called to love one another as kin. "Company" reminds us that we’re not meant to walk through life alone. Together, these words create an image of a community bound by love, faith, and a commitment to serve others with open hearts.

Embracing a Life of Generous Welcome

Living out Romans 12:13 requires a shift in mindset—it’s about prioritizing people over perfection and connection over convenience. Practicing hospitality is about more than creating a Pinterest-perfect gathering; it’s about fostering an environment where people feel valued and accepted. Kindred & Company is here to share ideas, encouragement, and inspiration for embracing this kind of generous welcome. From recipes to devotionals, hosting tips to heartwarming stories, each piece of content is a tool to help us live out the calling in Romans 12:13 more fully.

A Prayer for Our Journey

As we journey together in practicing hospitality, my prayer is that Kindred & Company becomes a source of inspiration and support, helping each of us to live more open-heartedly. May we find joy in giving, peace in serving, and strength in knowing that our efforts—big and small—bring glory to God. And as we share with those in need, may our homes, hearts, and lives reflect the boundless love of Christ.
